In 2016, the NDSU Foundation asked for an internal assessment of its development efforts, a campaign feasibility study, and ongoing campaign counsel in preparation for the largest campaign in NDSU history—and the largest ever undertaken in the state.
A number of strategic recommendations were implemented prior to the start of the campaign that laid a strong foundation. The feasibility study revealed NDSU should proceed with a campaign with a minimum working goal of $350 million. Database analysis and business intelligence led to restructuring development officer portfolios and making strategic decisions in staffing growth and alignment. Training for deans and the development team and sound, practical advice for donor strategies and visit execution were instrumental to success.

Just months prior to the campaign’s public launch in October 2019, a donor couple (members of NDSU’s Campaign Ambassador group) increased their campaign commitment to $75 million, enabling NDSU to announce a public campaign goal of $400 million. The campaign is currently poised to pass the $400 million mark in the spring of 2021, nearly two years ahead of the campaign’s scheduled end date.
